The test, and the limits

Xera Limited is registered for management consultancy activities other than financial management (SIC 70229) and is registered at Ellerman Avenue in Twickenham.

The test we hold ourselves to is whether the client could carry out a recommendation without us in the room. If the answer is no, the work is not finished: either it is not specific enough, or nobody owns it, or it depends on us being there, and all three are our problem rather than the client's.

In practice that means findings people recognise, recommendations with an owner and a sequence, and a written handover rather than a dependency. It also means saying when the honest answer is that the thing being asked about is not the problem.

Now the limits. Our classification excludes financial management, and we keep to that. We are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, and we give no financial, investment, tax, accountancy, insolvency, insurance or legal advice. We are not an employment agency or employment business and do not supply or introduce workers. Where a matter needs a regulated or professionally qualified person, we say so and decline the work.

Recommendations are for the client to decide upon and act on. We do not make decisions that belong to the people who have to live with them.
